Cyber Monday: Best Travel Gifts and Deals!
November 29, 2010
Everybody looks for great deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, especially in this economic climate, so why should travelers and those with wanderlust be any different? I'm not really partial to shopping, prefer to hang out in my jammies or comfies and we live a digital globetrotting lifestyle, so I do most of my shopping online. I've suggested travel gifts for Christmas before, but this year I found some new things and fabulous deals that might interest you, your favorite travelers or even non-travelers on your holiday list.
GARMIN NUVI GPS
One of our best decisions on our family world trip has been our Garmin Nuvi GPS and this one is better than ours and 68% OFF! Love the wifi feature which ours does not have, portability for walking or driving and LOW price!
FLIP ULTRAHD CAMCORDER
Everyone raves about this ultra simple ultra fun, ulta amazing Flip Video Camera and it's only 99 dollars! We don't have it yet, but it is on our wish list and looks ideal for kids and adults. So cute!
CANON CAMERA
I love this Canon camera, use it for all my blog photos these days and this is a great price! You save 70 dollars! It's easy, very portable, and takes wonderful pictures, what more could you want?
KINDLE
We waited until the Kindle prices came down and they added the free 3G ( no monthly payments, no annual contracts) and wifi. We just got it and love it! Not only can you read lots of free books ( there are ways to read them from many platforms) but the free 3G really comes in handy for travelers. We checked investments, tweeted and Mozart read her books while flying on a no wifi flight.
ROSETTA STONE
LANGUAGE SOFTWARE
Ready to really commit to learn a language? Rosetta Stone is another product that many people rave about. I haven't tried it yet, but the reviews sound very promising. The 20% off helps as these are not cheap.I like it that many say it is an effective and fun way to learn.
BOOKS
We have reviewed MANY books, just go to our sidebar on the left and click on some links under books. Or if you are into camping, see my post about the best books for camping Europe. We love books so I have a large variety that we have loved from kids' books to ones on investment and health, besides many great travel titles to enhance travel or armchair travel for kids and adults.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend if you are one of our American readers. One of my favorite holidays! This year I have vowed to get my Christmas and holiday shopping done early, what about you?

Love the Flip Video Camera! Definitely a must have and even better for 99 USD! :) But you'll need some place to use it right? Hacienda Tres Rios is offering a Cyber Monday deal with 30% off for the 2011 vacation. The Riviera Maya sounds like a great place to use your Flip!

I love your site - but not this post! The most exciting thing I get from your wonderful, nomadic lifstyle is the opportunity to live a life that isn't about consuming and buying: that's frugal and meaningful. I don't see how encouraging Black/Cyber days can be a part of that.
Anyway, thanks for all the info! Hoping to follow in your footsteps soon!

Thanks Anna! I am glad you love our site & also that you are willing to express how you feel! All feedback is good in my way of thinking & I hear your point of view.
We are big believers in a meaningful, sustainable, minimalist, non-consuming lifestyle...but even we have to have SOME stuff. ;) Our readers are VERY diverse and some enjoy buying a LOT.
My intention here was to find some good deals on things that our readers might be interested in buying for Holiday gifts and things that we have had personal experience with or have heard very good things about.
It actually took a lot of work ( MANY hours) to do the research and write this post. We get MANY questions about the equipment we use and what we most value. I would think, that since you are even planning a similar trip, you might even be interested in some of these things. Even for many armchair vicarious readers, hopefully there are things here that they might like.
I don't think this little post of a few good items at good prices for the gift giving holiday season is encouraging consumerism. I've got 5 years worth of posts giving away TONS of information, photos & entertaining content for free.
IF people are planning to buy any way, I hope this will be a help. No one can please all the people all the time, so I just do the best that I can. Trust me, it is hard work just to get ANYthing up while traveling.
Most bloggers do these kind of gift or holiday posts at this time of year. I think most, like me, hope it is a help to their readers.
Enjoy your planning & prep time..maybe we can meet some day on the road!

Agreed! We don't think buying a GPS and some books is the same as rampant consumerism. For us, anyhow, the point is less what you choose to buy and more that you really choose it. You don't just buy things on impulse. What's important to one person won't necessarily be for someone else.

OK, point taken! I just really dislike those terms Black Friday/Cyber Monday as turbo marketing tools...

Ok - point taken! It's just that I really dislike those (and other) turbo-marketing terms Black Friday/Cyber Monday that hype-up buying. I suppose I read the post more in that context.

I didn't mind this post at all, I always click on 'travel gear' when ever I find a new blog! I like hearing what people use, and I'm not techy enough to do the research myself.
Particulary good to hear about the kindle.
So its thanks from me!!

Hi! Hope your Christmas in a new country will be extra special this year. I also wanted to know I placed our entire Amazon order (a rather large one this year) through your link above for the Kindle (which we also bought!)as a way of thanks for this blog.

Thanks all! No problem @anna I understand perfectly! ;)
A REALLY BIG thanks to you Christine!! We really appreciate that! I hope you enjoy your Kindle as much as we have. We find it comes in handy in many ways.
It doesn't really feel like Christmas in this tropical weather, but we love our little xmas tree. On Sunday at the mall ( where the people are 99% Chinese) I was enjoying the Christmas carols & decorations even though most of the people do not celebrate it here..so I might have been one of the only one's who grew up with these songs & could sing along. LOL
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I am wanting a Kindle or any type of book reader. Lightens the load and a lighter load makes for happier travels:) Merry Christmas!
