Leaving On a Jet Plane

August 01, 2011

leaving on a jet plane, family travel

Just like the song, we are leaving on a jet plane, but we know when we will be back. We're scheduled to fly out of Barcelona on Tuesday and we head to exotic and beautiful Transylvania to find Dracula's castle and explore the region with friends we met online.

We've been invited to a baby christening in enchanting Sibiu and are looking forward to also exploring the painted monasteries of Maldavia and Bucovina. I think we will soon have some amazing photos, videos and stories of rarely seen areas as well as Unesco Heritage sites.

Then we are excited to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary at the end of August in Budapest, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe at the amazing Four Seasons Gresham Palace.

We had a fabulous time visiting in Barcelona with our Swedish friends, well worth paying extra for high season here as that was the only time they could take off. Photos and stories coming.

Alas I am still dealing with some digestive health issues and will write up the whole story soon and what I have learned along the way. Luckily I found an Acupuncturist here in Barcelona who seems to be helping. Keep us in your prayers as well as my Dad in Arizona who is in the hospital. Thanks!

We will return to Barelona at the end of September to pack up and visit with our Barcelona friends, then store the RV here for the winter. We start our USA road trip in Miami on September 14th, so we will have limited time online until November when we reach Santa Cruz.

We head back for another winter in  Asia for more Mandarin school the day after New Years, so you will probably see most of our Romania, Budapest, and American road trip stories after that date. I will get up what I can on the move.

What are your travel plans?

I actually went to Romania in 1989, shortly before their communist leader and his family were assassinated. It is a beautiful country...but I was not a fan of their food. Except the ice cream! We actually had ROSE flavored ice cream and it was good!

When we went to Dracula's castle, it was under renovation, but still an interesting place to see. I hope you enjoy your time in Romania!

Elena- I will still be posting, just not as much when we are moving. I've tried to post a head so there should be something at least up every Wednesday.

Thanks for your kind words and I hope you get to travel like us too. It is a very good life and we feel very blessed.

Very interesting Susan. I wonder how much it has changed. I went to the former USSR around the same time ( 1988) and I do want to go back there as well as I have heard it has changed immensely in some places.

Luckily we will be with friends so they can guide us to the best food I think.

Sounds super fun! Congrats on your 20th wedding anniversary!

Thanks Mikayla! Alas, I am having digestive problems again so we had to cancel this trip. So we will have to celebrate and explore these places another time.
