Florida Family Vacation Fun!
November 21, 2011
When you are tired of the rain, cold and snow on the East Coast or Midwest, there is nothing quite like hitting the sunshine and beautiful beaches of Florida! Some of my happiest childhood memories were about leaving the snow behind in Michigan on a wintery day and waking up to bright sun and warm breezes on my face.
My Dad drove all night long and we would pitch a tent right on the stunning snow-colored sandy beaches of Pensacola. A very frugal, but thrilling journey for a family of six, that we usually did a couple of times a winter. We'd return, with big smiles, winter tans and totally relaxed.
On our recent road trip to Florida, we re-lived some of that bliss. Sometimes, it's the simple moments of fun, sun and togetherness that makes for the happiest family vacation memories. Like building a sand castle together as the sun sets and the tide rolls in.
What are your happiest family memories? Did you ever escape the snow for some holiday sunshine?

I grew up in Texas and now live in Thailand. So have never escaped snow in my life. But as a kid, we escaped the heat by traveling to 10,000 feet evaluation in Colorado and camping (and hiking) for three weeks!

Never had the chance as a child, but now spend 3-4 months each winter in our 5th wheel first parked on a canal in Fort Lauderdale, then at a county campground in an avacado grove next to the zoo in SW Miami- have created a family out of fellow travellers in both places!

Ha , Marlana, escaping the heat also sounds like a great idea. ;) There is just something wonderful about going to a different and more pleasant climate.

Some of my happiest memories are also from my Florida vacations. We go down there every winter to escape the cold. Hanging out by the beach and sailing under the warm sunset is always a great experience.
