Beautiful Provence Tips and Photo - Avignon, France

This is one of my favorite photos of our open ended family world trip, as it captures some of the enchantment of a road trip through Provence which is a perfect place to vacation in Europe with kids. This was actually taken from our 4-star campsite in Avignon, one of the many special luxury campgrounds in Europe. I have put this photo up on Twitter, but some how never got it on our blog here.

Avignon is the magnificent medieval Papal gateway to Provence with a rich history as it was once the capital of Christendom.  The campsite is on a vast green island (Barthelasse Island) facing the city
with gorgeous views of the Avignon skyline like the Pont d'Avignon and the Palace of the Popes. One is only 5 minutes away from the historical city center by charming ( free) shuttle boat, which makes it easy to tour and then come home to a delightful park-like atmosphere with pool, jacuzzi, kids club restaurant and more.

"Provence is a country to which I am always returning, next week, next year, any day now, as soon as I can get on a train." ~ Elizabeth David

I LOVED my time in Provence. We visited Pont du Gard, Nimes, Avignon, Montpellier and the Cote du Rhone wine area. France always has a special place in my heart, but the south of France even more so.

The people were so laid back, time seemed to move at a different pace. I daydream about going back to France almost on a daily basis.

Oh, I hear ya Shannon, and couldn't agree more. We've spent a lot of time in the South of France over the years and will be back again and again.
