Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens - Best Secret Place to Relax in LA!
March 29, 2016

Looking for the most peaceful spot in Los Angeles? Relaxation, peace, beauty, meditation. calm, gardens, tranquility, quiet stillness, contemplation, serenity, sacred - all words that describe the gorgeous Guasti Villa/Busby Berkeley Mansion which is now the best spiritual oasis in Los Angeles and called the Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens.

It's amazing that this awe-inspiring, secret sanctuary is free and open to the public, making it a perfect retreat from the frenzied pace of LA. The Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens is a place of peace, just minutes from hectic Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles.

The outdoor stone labyrinth is the exact design as the one at the Chartres Cathedral in France ( which was built around 1200 AD and the largest ever built in France). Walking a labyrinth is an ancient practice ( dating back to Greece 2500 - 2000 BC where the labyrinth in Knossos we visited in Crete is part of Greek mythology ) and found in many cultures from Hindu to Hopi.

Walking a labyrinth is a method for spiritual centering, contemplation or prayer that some call a "walking meditation" and no matter what the religion, it clears the mind, gives insight and brings calm. This video shows more about the experience:
We visited in late January and we were all very touched by the beauty and peace of this environment. Things were just beginning to bloom for spring and some trees were bare but it was sunny and felt lush and magical, which made me excited to look forward to seeing it again in different seasons even though they are just subtle seasonal changes in LA.

There are many layers to the garden with surprise delights around each corner and down each step. I loved the architectural details of the turn-of-the-century Italian Renaissance mansion and palm trees against bright blue clear sky...

...the exquisite zen koi pond in shade with it's mesmerizing, meditative feel that brought back memories of our time in Asia,

... and the many formal fountains and water features that add visual and auditory pleasure.

The authentic Guasti Villa/Busby Berkeley Mansion is beautiful inside as well as outside. We felt really honored to be able to film Mozart's Offical Music Video for her song "Dear Heart" in such a magnificent location. You can see more of the interior, labyrinth and gardens in her video:
All the shots where she is in the black dress were filmed at this luxurious, historical and healing location where the energy is so sweet and the people so helpful.

Sometimes we felt as if we were filming in Europe, like when near this gigantic, classic Mediterranean arch bordered with bougainvilleas and cypress trees....

...sometimes in the Asian garden areas we felt as if we were by ourselves deep in the woods with a convenient chair to meditate and take all of nature in next to the sounds of splashing water.

From this photo view of the pools, fountains, garden and labyrinth taken from the sacred solarium ...

...to the angels dancing on the ceiling inside...

...this is a secret special place that you just don't want to miss! It's free and they have volunteer docents to show you around the mansion and gardens if you'd like to know more. Put it on your list!
Have you ever walked a labyrinth? How do you find peace in our fast moving, chaotic world?

I am going to look that one up for next month! We loved the Chinese Garden in Portland, OR. It always amazes me to find these hidden sanctuaries in the middle of the city. Thanks for sharing;)
