Looking to escape the cold winter weather with a trip and dreaming about an affordable winter getaway? Not everyone can bask in the sun in Bora Bora, but there are some great cheap winter getaways without a passport to places like Santa Fe, Miami, San Francisco, California, Key West.… including our recent road trip to Arizona!
Arizona is one of the sunniest destinations with more than 300 days of sunshine and 211 rain-free days a year. The landscape entertains with distant tawny peaks, majestic Saguaro, knobby cholla, spindly prickly pear and Mesquite cacti…even more glorious when in bloom.
Finding budget lodging with a pool is quite easy in Arizona. We quickly found this place near Phoenix which was a great location for exploring. It’s only about a 5 1/2 hour drive from our latest base in Los Angeles.
Sometimes you just want to relax, but there are plenty of awesome places to explore in Arizona, including the Grand Canyon which is particularly special and uncrowded in winter and spring seasons.
I love the open blue skies and palm trees everywhere. I don’t like heat, so summer in Arizona would never suit me, although my dad and grandparents enjoyed it all year long. It is a lovely winter or spring escape!
So if you are looking for a budget getaway and love sun, desert, Grand Canyon, Old West, ancient native cultures, golf, and more, drive or fly to Arizona for a fun adventure!
